Indonesian Sugar Research Institute (ISRI) is a sugar research institution in Indonesia which has more than 125 years experiences. In the past, this research center used Dutch name that is called Het Proefstation voor de Java Suiker Industrie. P3GI dalam Tiga Zaman When it was built in 1887, this research center took an important role in supporting sugar industries in Dutch Indies Region. Its support was not only for sugar technology user but also for stakeholders and capital owner. During its development, by the time Proefstation became the center of world sugar industries especially in 1921 when this research center found POJ 2878 variety as a wonder cane. That was really a spectacular achievement for this institution since the wonder cane was able to save sugar industries all over the world from the sereh disease. No longer after, in 1930 ISRI reached another achievement by releasing POJ 3016 variety that can produce 18 tons sugar per hectare. ISRI becomes the only one research institution in Indonesia that has specialization in conducting sugar and sweetener research, started from on farm and off farm sector to the policy and marketing concept. It is clear that Indonesian sugar industry performance cannot be separated from the ISRI’s role.

ISRI has a duty to provide various technologies and product innovations for the sugar society improvement, especially for sugarcane farmers and sugar factories. One of many ways to spread technology and product of ISRI, website is the most applicable method because it can be searched by wider users. This website is expected to be the first step to encourage an intensive interaction between ISRI as the producer and technology users and at the end it can encourage the efforts to increase the sugar production, productivity and farmer’s welfare.

The national sugar research development cannot be separated from ISRI’s role as the center of knowledge in Indonesian sugar industry. ISRI has taken a big role in building the national sugar industries during its long history started from a period of Dutch Indies until a period of Renting Sugarcane System. No doubth at that time, ISRI was seen as a dedicated authoritative institution.
